2011 --- AGM -- Annual Report -- Sunday 6 March

Welcome to our sixth AGM, and thank you, through your membership and support we gain amenities for paddlers and improvements to our paddling environment.

Thanks go to the committee; Secretary Barbara, Treasurer Jenny, Vice President Paul J., Auditor Robert, Members Trina, Charles and Paul H. for their efforts and input
Thanks to Melanie, we are now on facebook as well as our blogsite
Thanks again to Robert; the data from his bird observing/count days is becoming more important, as with the decline in some migratory and local species, the protection of our waterway habitats is essential.

It is pleasing:

That at Novara, a set of Steps & "Canoe Slide” has been installed by the City of Mandurah

That Sandy Cove and Clansman Beaches, two public beaches look certain to remain open for use by paddlers

That the Point Grey Outline Development Plan, states that it should make suitable provision for the two non-powered launch sites as identified by the Canoe Trail Friends.

That at Batavia Quays money is available to upgrade the boat ramp and the non-powered site.

That dogs will be prohibited from the “Bird Sanctuary” at John Street, Coodanup

That DEC is looking to prohibit or restrict boating in areas we have identified as sanctuary zones

That 38 people attended our “Why” & “How” we should protect water and shorebirds

That the 2011 Canoe Week’s three full page paid advertisements, will be sponsored by Port Bouvard Limited
That as part of canoe week, in partnership with the Mandurah Mail, an Amateur -- e Photographic Competition will be conducted. Categories are Paddling Action, Habitat Birds and Habitat Mammals and there will be a prize for each category

That we are going to produce a bird observing guide (Companion D), with walks adjacent to the waterways

That we have approached the Shire of Murray, to place sand on the degraded beach at Woodland Parade launch site, and to install bollards to restrict vehicles or trailers from being able to back into the river

That for Clean Up Australia Day, on Sunday 27 February, we “cleaned up” from Barragup Bridge to Furnissdale, Mandurah Paddling Cub did from Riverside Gardens down

That we have been involved in a Peel Trails Group initiative for canoe trail signs to be installed at Furnissdale, Pinjarra, Ravenswood, Riverside Gardens and Western Foreshore

That after two years, the Passionate Paddler’s items are still broadcast by 6MM, as part of the local DSR’s radio spot on Friday mornings between 9-10am
